Vintage grape scissors in silver. Handles are ornated and decorated with vine foliage. A dining implement used to cut the stems of a bunch of grapes; although made in the general form of a pair of scissors, it has – instead of 2 cutting blades – 2 wide flat-faced blades, only one of which has a cutting edge. Made by silversmith Gunnar Alp active between 1963 to 1995.

‘Gape shears or grape scissors were commonly used during the dessert course of a formal dinner. Only after the grape stalks had been cut with the grape shears into single portions was it permissible to use your hands to eat the individual grapes.’
